Finally Online!

The new star in the Joomla! extension heaven is called Ninjaboard. The initial beta release of our new flagship component is online NOW!

Ninjaboard is based on one of the first Joomla! 1.5 native forum extensions that came to market in 2008. Waiting for a 1.5 native version of the forum we use here on Ninja Forge - Fireboard, it became clear that the lifetime of the project was soon to be over, as Best of Joomla! said that they saw Kunena as the successor to Fireboard forum software.

That was the time when we Ninjas thought about starting our own project, possibly based on Fireboard, to prevent it getting lost in the pit. 

Through further investigations, which forum component would be a great candidate to be developed further, we came across the quite fresh project Joo!BB which at that time was one of the few 1.5 native projects that was strictly following the MVC model. For the development of Joomla! 1.5 native extensions it is a quasi obligation in order to really make use of all the good new features. This not only gives our software the best performance, but also facilitates easier development and mainainance, as any new developer can quickly get familiar with the source. This guarantees a continuous flow in the life cycle, even when a responsible developer is sick, otherwise tied up or simply leaves the company.

Ninjaboard Written for Performance and Security

Other very important aspects for us were the system performance and security. Especially reagarding these two points, Ninjaboard was reworked from tip to toe. So in Joo!BB for instance there were no mechanisms in place for protection from spoofing or CSFR attacks were missing. We implemented them and also closed several potential SQL injection leaks.

Although still at a (very) beta stage, Ninjaboard already has the basic features you would expect in good forum software. Starting with user group management and Joomla! user synchronization, over to a mature category and forum management up to a revolutionary configuration set management, which gives the board admin the ability to completely change the forum configuration with just a few mouse clicks. But the most promising feature is the design set management, which gives the board admin the possibility (also via few mouse clicks) to install and manage new templates, styles, icon, emoticon and button sets in order to quickly change the board's appearance when following seasonal conditions.

You could for example make up a christmas emoticon set and only use it over the december months. Or change the Images used for the buttons without having to change everything else.

We certainly did not forget about connectors to other components such as private messaging or community software, and these will be implemented before Ninjaboard goes stable. We already have inquiries from azrul.com, to integrate our software with their products such as JomSocial.

So then, let's lift the glass on a long Ninjaboard lifetime.
