Hi,

I have downloaded ninjaboard-0.5.0beta.tar.gz , and i tried to instal with the manager but there is an error about no xml file... ok it's a beta ;)

So i decompress the file and i don't find readme file to help me.

Can you give me a way for manual installation ?

Best regards.

Hi lukeduck,

Welcome to NinjaForge. Thanks for attempting to install NinjaBoard.

Even as a Beta, it *should* install or we would not release it :P ... other people have installed it without facing this issue. Maybe there was a recent update that broke it. I'll check with Uwe.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi lukeduck,

I quickly did test installs with the actual downloadable package on a 1.5.10 and 1.5.11 system, without any issues. Could you please let me know which version you're running and whether it's a Linux or Windows server?

Unfortunately a manual install would be a bit difficult, because the package also installs a module and a plugin, where you manually would have to modify your database. Hence we did not provide a README with instructions for this.

Best Regards
Uwe

I'm new to joomla and this but really want to use ninja board but where do I actually install this too? I like the main poster have unzipped it and can't find any instructions on where to go from there.

Link to this post 24 Jun 09

ok i was able to install this by going to the Extensions tab and then using the sites upload feature. but i had to rezip and save as a rar file since i was getting a 500 server error while doing the .tar file.

I then try and view the board to get parse errors like below

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /homepages/xx/xxxxxxxx/htdocs/cas/administrator/components/com_ninjaboard/views/user.php on line 443

Hi Redcastle,

Can you try uninstalling NB, then instead of zipping it as a rar file (which joomla is notorious for having trouble with), zip it as a zip file instead please.

Link to this post 25 Jun 09

When I try upload the .tar.gz it just takes me to a blank page. I'm on a linux server.

EDIT: If I make it a .zip I get the error: Unable to find install package

The white page with the tar.gz might indicate it is timing out.

Could you try using the install from directory option?
Details on how to do that here. (after the first screenshot on that page)

Edit: [tar.gz is still the best option]

Alternatively, if you are allowed to edit/create a php.ini file, create one in yoursite.com/administrator with this in it:

max_execution_time = 90

And then try again with the tar.gz install file.

even better, can you email me a super admin user/pass to daniel at this site and I will come over and see if I can't get it installed for you.

Link to this post 25 Jun 09

ok tried rezipping it no luck still get the parse error, i emailed daniel see if he can figure it out.

Now this is a "test" site and i have the plans once i get a suitable package together ie all plugins and extras in place to install this for a live site soon. So any help would be great as i will have many dr's using this board on a regular basis.

Hi redcastle,

I got your email, but I won't have time to look at the site until the weekend unfortunately. I have 2 busy days ahead with some big deadlines for work.

This resolved the issue.

um Noah are you the same person as redcastle ?

Link to this post 26 Jun 09

Not that I am aware of... I just think we are having the same problem or close to it. I'm new to all the joomla and installing stuff but i'm learning.

I learned that i need to create a php.ini file for the site

what is better to run on php 4 or 5?

Also what should be in my php.ini file?

I get the parse error could this be do to php 5?

Link to this post 26 Jun 09

Hi redcastle,
php 5 is always better. If you are on php4, ask your host how to upgrade to php5.

I believe Daniel will visit your site and attempt to install it for you on the weekend (tomorrow or Sunday).

Have you tried installing via the directory method as explained earlier in this thread?

Regards,
Mark

Thats the way I was able to get it to upload, it said it uploaded fine and installed but when i go to it i get a parse error. which i pasted in an earlier reply.

Hi Redcastle,

Is there anyway you can update your PHP to version 5?

It is currently running version 4 (which is now past end of life so you should upgrade anyway).

I suspect that this is your problem. I haven't tested NB myself with php4 as all my sites run php5.

I am also new to Joomla, but this is how i got it installed:

1. Unzip the Ninjaboard tar package.

2. Unzip the "ninjaboard-0.5.0beta" folder.

3. Find the "ninjaboard" folder and right click and send to a zipped folder.

4. Navigate to your "Extensions" tab in your admin control panel.

5. Browse the the zipped up "ninjaboard" folder...and upload.

To view settings etc...for the board go to "Components / Ninjaboard".

Hope that helps :)

P.s...thanks for the great software Ninja Team !

Hello,

I am really in need of help to figure out why the Ninja board does not work on my site.
The installation works fine however I recived below error message when I click on configuration or any of the component to configure it.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /home/.haddonwasher/andrewa/tropicalvibes.net/Staging/administrator/components/com_ninjaboard/views/user.php on line 443

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Yaw,

Are you running php4 by any chance?

Link to this post 01 Jul 09

4.4.9 is what am running

Link to this post 01 Jul 09

Would it be possible to get your host to update to php5?

As I am pretty sure that is your problem.

Link to this post 01 Jul 09

that I am not sure, but I will raise a ticket with the web host and find out what they have to say. So if that is not possible then I guess I am out of luck

Regards
Andrew

If they aren't prepared to upgrade to PHP5 it might be time to look for a new host.

PHP4 is already past it's end of life, so it won't get any more updates, not even security patches, so if a security problem is found in PHP4 then you will be at risk with no hope of a patch.

PHP is right around the corner too. So even PHP5 will be over soon. If your host insists on using using PHP4 and refuses to upgrade you, then they are basically saying that they would rather put you at risk than do some work.

Link to this post 01 Jul 09

I have raised a ticket with them to upgrade the PHP on my site to the latest rev 5.x

I will keep you posted how things go

Thank you very much

Regards
Yaw

Link to this post 01 Jul 09

The host upgraded the PHP to 5.2.6 and voila the Ninja works.

Thank you very much

Yaw

It's amazing...even webhost's are slow to update critical server items.

Link to this post 01 Jul 09

Tell me about it. They supposed to be one on the ball to protect our sites. But I guess they're only interested in collecting the dough.

I even took the advantage and updated the site to the latest Joomla release 1.5.12.
You can't take things for granted anymore

Link to this post 01 Jul 09

Nope. We need to be the ones most on the ball and proactive about keeping things up to date.

Link to this post 01 Jul 09

BTW glad the upgrade works. We didn't realize NB was PHP5 only. We must have slipped a few PHP5 functions in there.

I have updated the JED entry and the page on our site to reflect this.

Link to this post 02 Jul 09

ok, my host also strangely pasres sites in php 4, even though my db was php 5.
So what I had to do what create an htaccess file and put this in it

AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
then i uploaded that to the "root" folder of my site.

Now i had inadvertantly uploaded it to my server root and was locked out of the site untill i had time to investigate the issue and realized i messed up.

I then deleted that file and uploaded to the correct folder and now Ninja board seems to be running smooth!!!

I want to thank Daniel for his help!!!!!

Link to this post 02 Jul 09

Great to hear it's working redcastle!

Link to this post 03 Jul 09

Great. At least the next users will know right away the PHP 5 requirement so they dont run into the same issue.

Link to this post 03 Jul 09

Yup. thanks everyone for your patience and help.
