Feature release lacks features

So 1.1 came out and still no simple Reply and Quote buttons for posts? I keep seeing a lonely Reply button for the topic and whole quoting system is soooooo 90s. Seriously, guys, even adding Quick Quote/Insert username buttons which use JS is not a big deal at all.

Or it is some kind of "developers view"? I mean old-school quoting and 1-Reply-button stuff.

We got Reply buttons already, but Quote buttons are coming.
We decided not to add it in 1.1 because that, and many other features of the kind (sticky, split/merge, locking, banning, etc) all require more buttons, and our toolbar is so hardcoded it's just unpractical as it is now.
So we decided to ship 1.1 as is, work on 1.2 which gets a new toolbar class from nooku framework alpha 3 that we're getting for free that will let us add these features in no time.

From a subjective view every feature release will always lack a lot of features, simply because we're not trying to develop things old school with huge releases every second year.
Instead we are using an agile workflow, so we release far more often and incrementally.
The cost of doing so is that each release will be far less impressive.
But that's a price I'm willing to pay since it's for the better when you look at it from a more general perspective and take into account what's best for everyone as a whole.

Thank you for the explanation. This all is pretty understandable. I just can't wait to install and try your forum on site, but can't do it until it has all basic features. Friendly quoting and quick post are one of them.

My visitors... well, let's say, they are casual people and some times they can't do quoting properly even on feature-rich IPB. I have to correct their posts sometimes. If I install Ninjaboard, they'll never find out how to quote, which is bad, bad, bad.

Anyway, how long till 1.2 comes out? Any timeline?

You're welcome, I also understand how it's like to wait without knowing for how long.

I can assure you though that it'll be worth the wait, because when we do add those features we'll give it the same care and attention we've put into everything else so far. No half-arsed solutions.

But since we do lack many features most consider basic, that's why we make migrating to Ninjaboard so easy. So that people don't have to decide today if they are to use Ninjaboard until it's satisfying their needs, or go with something else with no option to use Ninjaboard in the future.
That's why we recommend people to use a forum that have all the features they need, and then migrate to Ninjaboard with a single click when we can match.

It's a bit too early to say when 1.2 will come out, all I can say is that the first alpha will come this week, and that the first beta will likely come two weeks after.
The reason why it's hard to tell is because 1.2 will need to run on both Joomla 1.5 and 1.6, and the time it takes to test 1.6 all depends on the availability of our beta testers and the amount of code breaking.

When the alpha comes we'll be able to say more about the timeline, but as it is now it's kinda like predicting the weather next week by looking at the clouds in the sky today.

I hope it helps answering your questions, and thank you for your interest in Ninjaboard.
