shadow panel tweaking

I have managed to get a module to display within shadowpanel, but when I hit the submit button in that mosule, nothing seems to fire. Also, is there a way to not have shadowpanel display any of itself (like the title) on my page ?

If you look at http://www.ncwenweb.org click on the center banner image (Free Stuff) to see the module appear. The remnants of shadow panel that I would like to make disappear are on the left near the bottom.

Thanks

Typo in your site name btw.

http://www.ncenweb.org/

I just had a feeling that the w shouldn't be there when I got an error clicking your link. :o

Is that submission form actually submitting anything? Does it save the data to the DB? If it did a post like most forms do, the page should reload automatically.

Looking at it in detail, the submission is done by javascript. But there is no actual form elements in the HTML. only table elements and form fields, but no form tags.

Does the module work if outside the shadow box?

Also what browser are you using? I tried FF, safari and Opera and I can't see the 'left overs' you mention.

woops, sorry about the bad link.

This is a third party leads capture module from extrememeJoomla, haven't even looked at the code, but before I put it into shadowpanel it did submit and emailed me (administrator) a notice saying I had a new lead, and added the lead to the database.

I use Firefox 3 Beta 5 in Ubuntu Heron. The "leftover" looks like a square, gray button on the bottom left position under the Video tutorials module. It has the label "Shadow Panel". You can click on it and it brings up the shadow panel just like the banner link does.

I am setting up a local copy of Joomla with Zend Studio Eclipse this weekend so I can finally debug this stuff like I'm used to doing in Java and Smalltalk. Just thought someone else might have run into this before.

Thanks for looking into it.

Where can we get this lead collector? I want to take a look at the original code to work out why it's not working.

hmm I wonder if it's a ff3 issue the leftovers. I will try to find someone with ff3 to check.

Its from extremeJoomla. I think it may be part of the JForce Suite that you have to buy. Not sure.

I'm trying out Drupal 6 right now after buying several lifetime memberships with Joomla vendors. Go figure.

lol @ Drupal

btw - which other vendors offer lifetime subscriptions??

Back on the left overs question - it seems to only appear in your browser, i can't see it in ie6, ie7, ff2, Opera, or Safari.

I am sorry but we aren't able to support beta versions of browsers, because they could (and do) change at any time.

Do you have a link to the lead generator? Did you pay for it?

extremeJoomla offers a 25 year license if you buy their suite now before it goes General Release and joomlacapital has a lifetime license for all their templates and addons.

Yes I bought the suite and I think that includes the lead module. You can check it out at extremeJoomla.

So far I like a lot of things about Drupal including user access rights and modules that are part of the core like forums. I think Joomla should probably have more of that. I am surprised however that a lot of things Joomla has already solved like file permissions during installation and the general installation of modules and templates seems way behind in Drupal.

Another very neat feature of Drupal is URL aliases. So I can decide to create a url like mysite.com/staff that points to whatever I want in the CMS.

I understand the browser support issue, but I really think Firefox is the most used by now.

@Browsers - I wish that were the case I really do. But...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_web_browsers

I.e. is still used by over 75% of internet users. (over 60% are IE6)

I would give a leg in order to only need to develop on FF or Safari. Even here at Ninjoomla where our users should know better because they are 'developers' IE makes up over 50% of our visitors.

That said, ff3 is still beta. Once it's non beta we will make sure everything works in it.

If we fix something for this version of ff3 and it turns out to be a bug then the next version of ff3 beta might break it again.

Thanks for the extremejoomla info. I am not going to buy the module to test it but if you can send me one to support (at) ninjoomla.com I will try to check it out.

@Browser usage: part of why you may be getting 50% of IE usage even from the developers visiting is that many developers happen to have both browsers open at the same time, I know I do and I tend to just alternate between browsers with what links I visit. It's a little schizophrenic, I know, but... there you are. :P

Oh, and sorry for not really contributing to the topic/hijacking it/reactivating a couple of days old thread...

Hmm, here's something I could add:

@Drupal vs. Joomla: as far as I've been able to see, the development is much more active in Joomla and in version 1.6 it appears, from the accepted whitepapers at least, that there are going to be some additions to the access rights/roles to make it more granular (perhaps even creating groups of users!).

Just food for thought, leonsmith, in your pondering as to whether to stay with Joomla or not.

Thanks for the feedback. My pondering is over. After spending a very intense week with drupal (even coding up a small extension) I come away convinced that Joomla 1.5 is superior in almost every way.

I was a Smalltalk programmer for fifteen years on some massive development efforts and managed to learn a couple of useful things. Joomla seems to be heading down the correct road in terms of the development framework while Drupal does not.

You are right about the level of development being higher in Joomla. I think one reason may be because Joomla vendors charge and are trying to build a business while there are a lot of "hobbyists" and fame seekers on the Drupal side. I love the open source concept and support it every chance I get, but there is a lot to be said for financial incentives.

Daniel, the lead generator is not one I would pursue. Even though I spent some money on the JForce suite, I have since installed SugarCRM and am trying to get a lead generator for them instead. My other option is to build a more generic one that can use different workflows like sending the leads as emails, putting them into a database, etc.

Thanks very much for the support and interest. I am back to being a Joomla devotee for the foreseeable future.

Leon

Ok Leon! Thanks for that.

I hope you get Sugar worked out then.
