Joomla 1.5 Risks?

Hi,

I'm working on moving from vbulletin to Joomla. Currently the only way to do it to meet my requirements will be to use Joomla 1.5.

I'm trying to figure out how much of a risk it is to build my site on joomla 1.5 instead of Jommla 1.7. Once I move I'd like to keep everything how it is for 2 - 3 yrs if possible.

Thoughts?

Could I ask - what is it that 1.7 is lacking that will mean you have to build with 1.5 instead?

Hi David,

Basically an authentication plugin. I can't lose my passwords.

Sorry - you've lost me! Could you explain further please?

I need a vbulletin authentication plugin so my passwords keep working. On a lesser note I need a forum with tapatalk integration. Plus a forum with private messages. Right now I can't do this with j1.7. So I'm wondering how bad it would be to use j1.5 for a couple years?

Well your website won't stop working, but J1.5 reaches end of life soon....

Hi Eric,

Joomla 1.5 is pretty secure, and if your host is good, then the only thing you'll have to worry about is the security of the extensions you use.

However, there are no guarantees. The Joomla project will end support for 1.5 in April 2012, and beyond that point you are on your own.

FYI: I have two client websites still running Joomla 1.0 with no issues. If they were mine I would have upgraded them a long time ago, but the clients don't think it is necessary yet.
