Plan & Pricing Changes

Daniel Chapman on 03 March, 2011

We want to let you know that we will soon be making changes to the way we sell our extensions. There are two changes coming...

One Plan To Rule Them All

There are currently four paid plans: Silver, Gold, Diamond, and Lifetime. We have decided to stop selling them. Instead, we will have just one plan: Developer Membership.

Developer Membership will give you access to everything on our website, for an entire year. That includes all current extensions and any new extensions we develop during the course of your membership. Developer Membership will be yours for $147/yr.

If you are an existing member... fear not; Your plan will continue to be active as long as you continue to renew your subscription (at the price you originally paid to join).

Buy One, Get One

"I only want [insert extension name here]. Why should I pay $147 to get all the other stuff I will never use?"

We have always received a lot of requests for single-extension purchases, and we’re pleased to tell you that we will soon offer just that option.

We haven't yet settled on a price for every extension, but generally, our major extensions (Ninja Content, Ninjamonials, etc) will likely sell for $47 and our smaller extensions (Ninja Accordion, Ninja Access, etc) will be $7.

Why The Changes?

Because after four years, we now have over sixty extensions available, and it has just become too expensive to maintain them while working on new extensions and features for the existing ones.

As a result almost all of our development team now has to work part or full time on other jobs and freelancing to cover our expenses. Which results in even less time to work on extensions for you.

Our goal is to provide the best quality extensions available today, and we can’t do that without being able to focus 100% on them.

It has been a great ride, and we are grateful to all our members past, present and even future, but things need to change if we are going to maintain our quality and development rate.

When Does The New Pricing Come Into Effect?

The change will happen this coming Monday, which is only a couple of days away. That means that if you want to lock in the current low pricing, you need to act fast!

  • I have a developer plan which expired today - what do I need to do?

Do you have a re-subscriber plan?

I never received an email from you about my subscription expiring?

    Let me know

    • Hi jim Reid,

No, we don't have a re-subscriber plan. However, since your Diamond membership just expired today, we'd be happy to renew it under the original terms ($100/yr).

Send your payment to [paypal at ninjaforge dot com] and then let us know via our contact form, and we can re-subscribe you manually.

Have questions, ask on the pre-sale forum or via our contact form.

      Cheers,

  • Hi there! I am a lifetime member. Is it safe to assume this will stay intact?

    Thanks!

    • Hi Josh,

      Correct!

Lifetime members will be members for as long as NinjaForge remains in business. More then one person depends on NinjaForge for their livelihoods, so you can safely assume that that will be a long time :)

  • Mark,

If I understand the new pricing, instead of paying $10 per month/$120 per year, I would have to make a one time annual payment of $147. Is that correct?

Is it not convenient for you to receive monthly, rather than annual payment?

Also, did I miss an announcement of the price change by email? I just got a "bounced" payment notice from PayPal.

    • Hi Tom,

There are/were no pricing changes for existing members.

If you were a Silver member, you paid $10/mnth, and this gave you access to the modules and plugins, but not the bigger extensions (Ninja Content, Ninjamonials, etc). This doesn't change if you were a Silver member before the pricing change. After the pricing change, we no longer sell this level of membership *to new members*.

If you were a Gold member, you paid $60/mnth and got access to everything. This doesn't change for you if you were a Gold member before the pricing change. However, we no longer sell this level of membership.

Just to be clear, I'll say again, there is zero change in any way for anyone who was a member before the pricing change. No change. Nada!

If you have never been a paying subscriber, or were not one at the time of the pricing change, then all you need to take away from this blog post is this:
There are two ways to get access to NinjaForge extensions:
1.) Purchase just the extension you need. They sell for $7 (comes with 1mnth of support) or $47 (comes with 6mnths of support)
2.) Purchase a Developer membership, and get access to everything. This costs $147/yr

I hope that clears things up :)

  • Hi Mark,
I have a note in my calendar to cancel my plan but I cannot find my purchase history or even an email to say how much I paid. Could you please advise how to do this?
    Thanks

  • Dont worry, found it. It says Free Registration: lifetime membership - does this mean I will not be getting charged again?

  • Hi Sharon,

If you already have a "Free Registration" account, then you shouldn't be charged again.

If for some reason you are, let us now via the Contact form and I'll see to it that you get your money back.

    Cheers.

  • I was ready to buy Ninja Accordion for $7, but then saw on the Paypal checkout $7 per month.

Question: will this $7 per month be a continious billing authority or is it a one off payment?

    • Hi Philip,

      Sorry about the confusion.
You are subscribing, and your subscription will automatically renew every month until you cancel it.

We did this because a lot of our members like to have continued access to new versions and to support.

Those like yourself, who are only interested in one month of access and support can simply cancel their subscription from within their Paypal account immediately after making the payment.

That said, the fact that you are asking indicates that we need to improve our checkout process to make all of this clear.

  • Hi,
are the 7 dollars for an extension (Ninja Content Timer) recurring, or is this a one time fee?
    Thx

    • Hi Michael,

We don't sell extensions, we sell subscriptions. Every subscription we sell is recurring.

Many of our members don't need support beyond a month, so they cancel their subscription immediately after paying. This can be done directly in your Paypal account. Doing so will ensure you don't pay a subscription fee automatically a month later.
